The Fiat 500 is a small city car built by Fiat between 1957 and 1975

Launched as the 500N (Nuova) it was a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 2.97 metres (9 feet 9 inches) long, and originally powered by an 469 cc two-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 13hp, the car had a fabric folding roof and “suicide” doors. In 1958 a sports edition was issued, with a larger (499cc) engine which gave 21hp, red wheels, and a sold roof.

1960's 500D arrived with a 499cc engine producing 18hp, and gave the option of full length or half length fabric roof.

A 500F was introduced in 1965 with front hinged doors and a half length fabric roof. The Lusso version was released in 1968, with bumper overriders – and carpet! The 500R “Rinnovata” was the last version, with a new Fiat badge, and a 594cc engine producing 18hp

Between 1960 and 1975 the 500K Giardiniera, a two door station wagon version was available. This version had a 499cc flat twin engine producing 18hp and was 4 inches longer than the saloon. It kept its suicide doors for the whole of its lifespan. Itw as also available as a van.

Sports tuned models were released by Arbarth, some of which produced as much as 38hp, and an open version with custom bodywork by Ghia. This was known as the “Jolly”
