The Jaguar C-Type racing sports car built by Jaguar and sold from 1951 to 1953 used the running gear of its contemporary, the XK120, in a lightweight tubular frame and aerodynamic aluminium body.
Malcolm Sayer designed the body, whilst the frame was designed by Bob Knight. The body was made of aluminium and the car has no road-going items such as carpets, weather equipment or exterior door handles.
The car was a purpose built racer designed specifically for the le Mans 24hour, which it won in 1951 and 1953, with a runners up place in 1954. It also gained wins and other credible results in many other races
The 3.4-litre twin-cam, straight-6 engine produced between 160 and 180 bhp on the road going XK120. The C-Type version was originally tuned to around 205 bhp. They are also lighter, and from 1952 braking performance was improved by disc brakes on all four wheels.
A total of 53 C-Types were built. There are many modern replicas being made, some of which may have made in onto this blog
