The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a sports car by Volkswagen. The Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 (Beetle) with styling by Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia, and hand-built bodywork by the German coach-builder Karmann.
The car was available in 2+2 coupe (1955–1974) and convertible (1957–1974) body styles
It was the most expensive VW available, the fastest, and the most luxurious. It was fitted with such standard equipment as a cigar lighter, an electric clock, locking steering column, front & rear vent windows, variable wiper controls and a luxurious interior. It also had the distinction of being the only VW fitted with built in fog lights and to have the option of an electrically operated steel sliding sunroof.
